Alright guys, for this years PhotoSoc trip we are planning to head into the heart of the Scotland towards Glen Coe and we are planning to spend a weekend in a hostel in Fort William. We are planning to spend two days and three nights there, going up on the 19th of April and returning 22nd of April. We reckon that its going to cost between £110-130, once we know how many people are interested we can give you an exact cost. If you are interested please email or comment on this post so we can get an idea on numbers, please respond before the 6th of March.

Committee meetings

As we have the Annual General Meeting coming up in March where we elect a new committee, we’d like to invite you to our committee meetings. If you check out our page on the website, we will write a few words about each of our roles so you have a better idea of what we do.

If you think you’d like to be on the committee next year, or you would just like to see how the society is run, then please come along!

We meet every Monday 7pm in the Gallery Eye (upstairs in the union). We tend to have ourselves a nice cup of tea as well so bring a mug along with you if you’d like some!

We hope to see some of you there tomorrow!

Explore the North – Train Roulette!

A hearty hello to all you photographers out there!

Thank you to everybody who came to the Travel Photography meeting on Thursday evening, and an even bigger thanks to the people who shared their photos. We hope you all enjoyed it and feel inspired to explore some new places and new aspects of photography.

So to that end, we have organised a trip to help you explore some of the places which are only a short train ride away from Sheffield. Here’s what you need to do…

1. Take a note of Beckie’s number – 07907874892

2. Turn up at Sheffield train station this Saturday 19th no later than 10am

3. Bring whatever form of camera you have or book one of PhotoSoc’s if they are still available

4. Bring £10 if you have a railcard; OR £15 if you don’t have one

5. Bring a big bag of enthusiasm

When you get to the station, we will allocate you to one of our FIVE mystery locations so that you can head off in a small group to explore and capture your own journeys and travels. If you are running late, PLEASE call or text Beckie so that we can still get a ticket for you in time.

We would really love it if you would share with us what you saw and experienced so we can see what our country looked like in different places on the same day. You can upload your photos to the PhotoSoc flickr group or bring them along to a meeting to share in person.

Any questions, just email us!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Lots of love,

York Christmas Market – this Saturday!!

Lovely photographers,

Come and join us on our day-trip to York Christmas Market this Saturday 11th! We will be leaving from Sheffield train station at 10:54am, so please make sure you are at the station before 10:30am so you can buy your ticket in time. It costs £10.45 for an open return (with a young persons railcard), which means you can come back at whatever time you like, and it only takes an hour or so to get there so we’ll be able to make the most of the day!

Anybody is welcome – please come along and bring your friends. It’s going to be a lovely day out with lots of beautiful sights, beautiful lights, mulled wine and wonderful company! :-) See you on Saturday!

Lots of snow-meltingly lovely love,

December things!

Bonjour everyone!

Although we are winding down for Christmas (unfortunately deadlines loom for many of us) we still have one more trip for this term, and some fun things to tell you about for after Christmas!

Trip to York Christmas Market

On Saturday 11th December, we are going to get all festive at York Christmas Market. Great for photos and merriment! We will be meeting at the train station at 10:30 and will get the 10:54 train to York so please make sure you arrive on time. You can get an open return ticket for £10.75 with a railcard so you’ll be able to come back to Sheffield with us or whenever you want throughout the day.
Make sure you bring your friends, your camera (if you have one), some warm clothes, and some money for trinkets and mulled wine!

Spring term exhibition

We are in the early stages of planning a PhotoSoc exhibition for the end of March 2010. Any of you can show your photos (if you’re a member) and they will be on a theme of your choice. We’ll give you more details after Christmas, but for now just keep snapping away to get those beautiful pictures that you might like to display! :)

Weekend trip to Edinburgh

Yet more exciting things!! We’re going to take a little trip to Edinburgh for the first weekend of the Easter holiday (8th-10th April). Again, we will tell you a bit more after Christmas, but make sure you put it in your diaries if you think you might be interested. We will have a limited number of places which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

We won’t be having any more Thursday meetings before Christmas so if you need to pay for a hoodie that you have ordered, please come and find us in the Gallery Eye (upstairs in the union) between 7 and 8pm on a Monday evening. The hoodies are £18 and it would be great if you could try and bring the correct change. Thanks!

Look out for more fun, useful and interesting things on the website over the holidays and, as always, please contact us if you have any questions.

Lots of love and merriment,

PhotoSoc xx

(See you next Saturday if you’re coming to York!)

Chester Zoo

Lovely members,

We have now SOLD OUT of tickets for the Chester Zoo trip this Saturday 13th.

For those of you who have got your tickets, remember to meet us at 9:30am on Saturday morning outside Bar One on Glossop Road. We’ll be home at about 5pm. Don’t forget to bring some warm clothes, your camera and a little snack with you for the journey!

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there for a great day out at one of England’s best zoos :-)

Committee meeting tonight

Hi all,

The committee are having our weekly meeting in the Gallery at 7pm and we’re going to be working out plans for the weeks after the Easter break and possibly making some spending decisions. We’ll also be deciding on what roles are going to be available at the AGM.

We’d really like anyone who’s thinking of standing for a committee position at the AGM (or is just curious about a position) to come along and chat to one of the committee about it, and to be able to get feedback on our plans for after Easter. There will be an email going out sometime soon detailing what the new positions are (and the old ones too!), so don’t worry too much if you can’t make it tonight, but it’ll be nice to see some of you there!
