About Us
Sheffield University Photography society is open to anyone with an interest in the art of photography and who wants to share their skills or learn more. We are a very welcoming and relaxed society, and people are welcome just to turn up to meetings/socials to find out more. Owning an SLR camera is not necessary, nor do you need to have in-depth technical knowledge or extensive photographic experience – whilst the above criteria may help, anyone is welcome, so long as they have an interest in and enthusiasm for photography.
We hold society meetings on Thursday evenings (around 7pm) fortnightly. Meetings might involve a talk from a member of the society or a professional, members presenting photos on the fortnight’s theme or just discussing what people want from the society. The society also organises trips and socials in the intervening week, and in the past we have been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the industrial areas of Sheffield, the Peak district, to the dog races and bowling. The cost of membership this year will be £5 and entitles you to use of our Darkroom, loan of our Equipment and to come on all our trips and socials, as well as being able to take advantage of our Discounts!
