Irina Werning, a photographer from Buenos Aires, began an unusual project in 2010 by deciding to recreate people’s childhood photographs.
Werning explains that the project was born out of a love for old photos: “Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future.”
Werning’s subjects have obviously changed with the passage of time, but many are easily recognisable as their younger selves, and the images demonstrate a real dedication to replicating as closely as possible the conditions of the original photos.
Werning describes ‘Back to the Future’ as an “ongoing project”, and admits that it has “made me realise I’m a bit obsessive…”.
