University of Sheffield Photo Soc

This week

Hey all,

Sorry we’ve been sending you so many emails lately! This one is worth it though, we promise! :)

We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm for the darkroom and Group 1 (the beginners group) filled up much quicker than we imagined. We’ll be trying to run another next week however, and it’s likely to be at a different time, so if you couldn’t make it to the last one anyway, don’t worry!

Borrowing is now in full swing and we’ll let you know about arrangements for borrowing over the holidays soon! We’ve noticed no-one has borrowed the OM-10 film SLR yet, why not?! Get shooting with some B&W film, we can give you some if you ask :)

This Wednesday

We’re running a DSLR beginners tutorial and photo critique session at 3pm in The Pennines (upstairs, off the Gallery, use the Coffee Revolution entrance). Do come along, it should be fun! We’ll also be returning prints from the exhibition!

Photosoc goes bowling this Thursday at Centertainment, if that rings any bells then you can meet us down there at 7pm, otherwise we’ll be leaving from the University tramstop at 6:30pm. Please let us know if you’re coming, as we need numbers!

HistSoc charity auction

History Society have asked if anyone is available to go down and take some photos of a charity auction they’re doing at Bia Hoi this Thursday. Obviously you should be bowling with us, but if that’s not your sort of thing, they’d much appreciate if someone could go along. Email us if you’re interested.

British Heart Foundation competition

The British Heart Foundation has just launched it’s first annual digital photography competition:

The theme of the competition is Red for Heart and the winning images will be showcased as part of National Heart Month in February. There are some fantastic prizes to be won, including the once in a lifetime opportunity for a one-day shoot shadowing an award winning Getty photographer for the winner of the Student category.

There will also be an exhibition of the finalists as part of the National Heart Month launch outside the London Eye, and a selection of the winners also be published in the Independent on Sunday Newspaper. Closing date for entries is 6th January 2010.
