April 2012 PHOTOGRAPHERS’ PLACE weekend workshop, this time with an emphasis on ‘people photography’.
Paul Hill, Nick Lockett and Martin Shakeshaft are offering their expertise and guidance on sessions on Documentary and Environmental Portraiture Photography over the weekend of 13 – 15 April 2012 in Wirksworth on the edge of the Peak District.
We are delighted to have guest speaker, Stephen McLaren to talk on street photography. He is running Master Classes on street photography for The Guardian and has edited ‘Street Photography Now’, published by Thames & Hudson 2010.
This is not a PhotoSoc run event

Photography Experiment
Hi Photosoc-ers!
I’m conducting an original experiment looking at what direction of light we prefer light to come in from in portraits. I’m also comparing the results of people who read from left to right (English) with those who read from right to left (Arabic) to see if there is a difference.
I cant give away too much as I don’t want to influence the results but I’ve put a quick image comparison survey on my website. It takes less than 2 minutes to complete and doesn’t require giving away any personal data.
Please could you help me out and take part in my experiment – the address is http://edwardmillerphoto.com/the-photography-experiment
I appreciate your help so much and as soon as I have collected the data, I will post the results to let you all know if we find anything interesting.
Again, the address is http://edwardmillerphoto.com/the-photography-experiment
Thank you!
p.s. if you happen to have any relatives who read Arabic as their primary language, it would be very helpful if you could pass on the url!

Paid Photography Job
Hi everyone,
A member of the Orthoptics society has been in touch to try to find a photographer for their ball tomorrow, check out the details below and give Natasha an email ASAP if you are interested.
“Photographer needed for around 3-4hours, for our annual EyeBall.
It’s taking place Saturday 10th December (TOMORROW), at Sheffield Cathedral and guests arrive at 7.
It’s only a smallish ball with around 70 guests, would just like photos of guest arriving etc, some of the room and a few througout the night.
Just the person and a camera is fine, or if they had any additional gear such as a backdrop that would be great!
Will be willing to pay, or make donation to society!
For more details please get in touch with Natasha Barrow (n_grace_barrow@o2email.co.uk) Obviously understand it’s such short notice, but we got let down with our original photographer!
Thanks a lot,
Natasha.”
