Darkroom Sessions & Ultimate Fair
Hey Guys, a few things you should know about:
— DARKROOM —
I hope the start of term hasn’t depressed you too much, but fear not! Learn the art of Darkroom photography during your first week back and learn to de-stress over the sweet smell of developer!
Group 1: Developing: Thursday 11th 13:00 – 14:00 4 Places
Group 1: Printing: Thursday 11th 14:00 – 15:00 4 Places
Group 3: Orientation Refresher type thing:Friday 12th: 10:00 – 11:00 4 Places
Group 2: Printing: Friday 12th: 12:00 – 13:00
A system has also been set up so that those who are trained can use the darkroom in their own time and with their own chemicals and paper:
1. Book when you want the darkroom using our website for times between 9:00 – 16:30
2. Go to the porters office in the Mappin Building. Say you’re there to use the darkroom. Show your membership card and hand over your Ucard as a deposit to receive the Key.
3. ??
4. Profit [in pictures].
— ULTIMATE FAIR —
If you do not have your Membership card, we’ll have them all at the Ultimate Fair (Octagon 10:00 15:00) this Wednesday. You can pick it up, or hell, even sign up as a member if you’re not already!
Currently we’re a bit shorted staffed, so we’d absolutely love it if you wanted to devote an hour or so of your time helping to man one of our stalls at the fair. We’ll have a mini-studio set up in the cloak room, so if you want to play or practice with speed lights, backdrop, reflectors, portraits etc etc and take lots of cool pictures, then come along and help us out. Our other stall will be in the main hall amongst all the others.
— DISCOUNTS —
We’ve set up a few discounts with Harrsion Cameras on London Road. They’re nothing mega, though remember it never hurts to barter on 2nd hand stuff (they have a good selection!) and maybe they’ll help you on your way to photography stardom. Besides selling, they’re a superb source of information regarding anything photography related.
10% off all Ilford Film, Paper and Chemicals
10% off developing costs if over £10
Free memory card or films with 2nd hand cameras
— SOCIAL —
Quick reminder that our social is this Thursday; Mini photohunt, games, drink, what more could you ask for. 7pm Union Box Office (at Interval entrance).
Questions? Then email.
See you soon,
Photosoc.

Indian Society job: Temptations on Monday
| Hey all,
Indian Society have asked us to help cover their “Temptations” joint event on Monday 8th February and are looking for three people interested in covering the event from 8:30pm to 3am. Apparently it’s “the biggest student Asian event of the year”, so if that sounds like your sort of thing or you just want to try your hand at covering something different, call Jeet on 07872534424. See you all at the Ultimate Fair and the social on Thursday! Photosoc |

First Social of 2010!
Dear Happy Snappers,
I come with great news of PhotoSoc’s first social of 2010 which will be occurring at 7pm on Thursday 11th February.
Come and meet us in the foyer area by the Box Office (just next to Interval) just before 7pm and we’ll send you all out with a photo-hunt mission to get as many wonderful photos as you can based on a few themes of our choosing. That part will last about 45 minutes, and then we’ll all pile into The University Arms with a marvellous variety of board games (I have Sheffield Monopoly… yes). We’ll have a few games on the go, and maybe pool our competitive, winning streaks later on to win the pub quiz.
It’s a great chance to relax after all the exams are over, and hopefully meet a few new people as we’ll have been shouting about PhotoSoc at the Ultimate Fair the day before!
So come along (with your Game Face firmly attached!) and bring any board games that you’d like to share with everyone. You don’t need a camera but you can bring one if you want to.
See you on Thursday!

Meeting 2nd Feb, 6pm Uni Arms
Dear all,
In Short:
We’re having our 2nd committee meeting of the year tomorrow evening at 6pm in the University arms behind the IC.
We’re inviting anyone of you who wants to get involved even more to help run the society, for now and in the future.
We’re loads planned already but with another mind or two, we can really go places, and you can shape or get out of it whatever you want most, so COME.
In Detail:
The AGM is fast approaching in March/April and this is where a new committee is formed to run the society for 2010-11. You should know that we’ve put lots of effort and time in getting this society up of the ground from the past few years; securing you all with a darkroom & equipment as well as speakers, trips, socials, tutorials, exhibitions, with loads more to look forward to like blue skies. Hence it’s close to our hearts that the soc’ is continued the way it should be; with a committed and determined committee! So if you’re unsure about whether you’d run for a position at the AGM yet, come along tomorrow (Uni Arms 6pm 2nd Feb) and see what it’s like and help us out with a few things, and convince the rest of the committee to invest in some hasselblads.
Big love,
Photosoc
Oh and guys, there are still plenty of places for the darkroom training this week- book here: http://photosoc.union.shef.ac.uk/darkroom-booking
