Good evening Photokitties!
This week’s meeting is macro photography. We will be bringing along some different fruits to cut up, which should produce some great macro shots. If you have a macro lens, of course bring it along! But as not a lot of people have these, you can do this crazy thing where you take the lens off your DSLR camera! Check out this article on the method: http://content.photojojo.com/…/make-macro-photos-with-your…/
Don’t forget to bring your camera, of course. And feel free to being along any cool and tiny objects.
Photosoc Hoodies are soon going “on sale”. They will be black, zip-up and embroidered with “Sheffield University PhotoSoc” on the back. The front left hand side on the chest will have the photosoc logo and your name! YAY! They will be around £23 and our Social Secretary, Henry will be posting about them very soon on the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/sheffieldphotosoc)
Christmas Market Trip
We are going to Lincoln for a trip to the Christmas market on the 6th of December! More details about this will come later to the time and there will be a Facebook event.

We will be having our traditional Christmas meal on the 10th of December, more details will be released very soon, Keep your eye on the Facebook group!

This Thursday is photosoc’s last free meeting! (7:15pm, Art Tower LT06) But its a great one for all of you who need a little help with some basic photography terms.
In our future photosoc meetings we will often use words like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field, dynamic range. What do all of these mean? Well we’re going to try to explain all about light and what it does in your photos. This meeting is part one of photography basics, the second part will be in week 4 and will focus (lol) on camera jargon, things like focal length numbers and what they mean, words like lens distortion, sensor size differences and how they affect your camera.
We will be giving a short presentation, explaining the key points, and then we will be having a go at some High-Speed Photography! We will be dropping things into cups of coloured water and trying to capture the resulting splashes, which usually looks quite cool!
Do you think you might already know this stuff? Is this all old news for you? Well that’s perfect! These sessions always generate a lot of questions, and there will be many people who need help! If you feel like you’ve got a good hold on this stuff, it would be great if you could come along too and help out :)
Things to bring along, if you can:
a pint/large glass
something small to drop into the water
a camera with the ability to do manual exposure or shutter priority/aperture priority. If you don’t have this, don’t worry I’m sure you’ll get a chance to use a photofriend’s!
Some extra things to note:
Memberships will be availible to purchase for just £8 for the year
Darkroom and film queries can be asked of the Darkroom Officer Frankie, who will be present
If you would like to be motified of any upcoming job oppertunities, subscribe to our seperate jobs mailing list, run by Jobs Officer Dan. Link: http://photosoc.union.shef.ac.uk/jobs-mailing-list
