For any of these events that caught your attention, contact Dia Wang on Facebook.
117. Geography Society Charity Auction
Time: 1st December at Bloo88 7:45-9:45pm
Location: Bloo88 (upstairs) on West Street
We are putting on a charity auction in Bloo88 on 1st December to raise money for the two charities that we support, Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project and FoodCycle.
Cathedral Archer Project is a local based charity in Sheffield who work with homeless and vulnerable adults to give them confidence, motivation and support to make positive and fulfilling steps up and away from homelessness.
FoodCycle runs a volunteer-powered community project in Sheffield, working to reduce food poverty and social isolation by serving tasty, nutritious meals to vulnerable groups. The charity collects surplus food every Wednesday from Beanie?s, a local fruit and veg shop as well as a local Tesco store to create a three course meal for those in need.
I am emailing to ask if anybody would be available to photograph the event for an hour or two, as it is for charity we are wanting all our costs to go directly to the charities so wouldn’t be able to offer a payment but could definitely give someone some pizza and nibbles. We would just like photographs of people/auction/band or what the photograph thinks would work. This would be a great event for anybody who is relatively new to photography as we would be grateful to anybody helping us. ?
118. SUSAC 40th Year Anniversary and Christmas Meal
Time: 6th December 6:30-9:30pm
Location: Kenwood Hall
Details: SUSAC (Sheffield University Sub Aqua Clubs) is having their 40th year anniversary and Christmas meal on 6th December from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and they want a photographer to take photos for the event. The organizer is basically asking the photographer to take photos of everyone looking all fancy and dressed up on arrival and then wander around the tables. The payment is ?30 in total!
119. Hong Kong Society Christmas Ball
Time: 7th December 7:00-11:00pm
Location: Hilton Hotel
Details: Hong Kong Society is organizing a Christmas Ball on 7th December in Hilton. Since the hotel is only offering a photographer to take photos in the photo booth they set up, they would like to invite a photographer to take snap shots for them throughout the night from 7:00-11:00 pm. The payment will be ?50 for the whole night!
120. Enactus?s local projects
Enactus Sheffield is a student-run social enterprise company based in the University of Sheffield. They have 14 commercial and social projects both locally and internationally, all of which are run by students of the university.
At present, there are 4 local projects that aim at supporting different need groups, from homeless men to survivors of human trafficking. Enactus would like to show what they do and have proper pictures taken of them as well as their members in action during their meetings (which happen on a weekly basis)
In terms of dates, sometime in week 10 would be ideal, and they would need either:
– One photographer to come in twice for that week (as they would like photos for two different project teams)
– Two separate photographers to come in for that week (one for each project team)
The two project teams are called HOPE and Homemade.
?For Hope, we would only have a female photographer as the need group are survivors of human trafficking which as exclusively women. And men are not allowed in. We would like them to be available between 2-4 on the Wed. on week 10. (where possible, if they are available for half an hour before hand so that I can brief them fully).
As for Homemade, this project works with Homeless men, in a jam-making and upcycling enterprise. Therefore, this will not need to be gender specific.
They will be needed anytime from Dec. 3rd (Wednesday) onwards from 1.30 pm. (the project leader will be able to give them a lift to and from). Similarly, if they are free for half an hour beforehand for a full brief. ?
It would be a voluntary job, however as Enactus is a registered Company (social enterprise), they are more than happy to provide a reference, additionally, the photographers will be more than welcome to add this job onto their CV’s as these pictures would like to be put on the company?s website and social media platforms.
Sport Sheffield does a charity naked calendar every year to raise money for their adopted charity. As a part of the event, some coming games are shown below. It won?t take long as only single shots are needed, if you?re interested in sport photography and want notch skills, contact us! The club might organize a prize for the person who takes the winning (front cover) photo!
(1) Fencing: 23rd November 4:00pm-4:30pm – Activity Room 1 at Ponds Forge
– a sport where the men will be lunging in a V shape (swords covering their delicates), with the women arranged artistically in the middle; helmets and gloves doing the job of concealing what’s left
(2) Mountaineering 22nd November 7:30pm (The Foundry Climbing Centre)
– the idea is four climbers up the main overhanging wall, or on the bouldering wall.
(3) Student Cheerleading 24th November 7:40pm (Brookhill Hall)
– We will organising ourselves into a pyramid structure with most people involved in the stunt and some doing other stunts.
?PLATFORM FESTIVAL – 6th ? 8th March
As you can see this is not until next semester but we thought we would give you a heads up as it does require more photographers! Photosoc are also getting some exhibition space in the Union during the festival, and who ever volunteers for the job will be guaranteed to get their work on display! There will be performances throughout the Union for 3 days and we would need a number of photographers on each day. These photographers would have free entry for the weekend (normally ?10) Plus free wristbands.
One of the events:
– Sheffield University Convention
Time: 21st March 2015 1pm-3pm
Location: Student Union
?We are organizing a convention with lots of societies doing stuff. One of the big things Cosplay Society will have people dressing up and what might be a great idea is they offer costumes for people to dress up in and have photos taken. I think they might be able to do it themselves but not amazingly, and wondering if Photosoc may be interested in taking some of these photos and getting involved with the convention. Lots of people will be wearing crazy costumes so hopefully the photos will be fantastic! It?s voluntary but if we make a profit on the event, this will be used to support the photographer. Also, free pizza at the end and free entry to the convention.?
That’s all for now!
