Vivian Maier

Vivian MaierVivian Maier was an American street photographer, active from the 1950s to the 1990s, who might have faded into obscurity were it not for the efforts of a man named John Maloof.

Maloof bought more than 100,000 of Maier’s negatives (20-30,000 of which were still in undeveloped rolls) at a furniture and antiques auction in Chicago, and has since been developing her photographs and posting them at Vivian Maier – Her Discovered Work.

This online project has led to an increasing appreciation of Maier’s work in the media, and the making of a book and documentary about her life and art has recently been announced.

This is amazing! Such BEAUTIFUL street photography.. just documenting reality but in such an eye-catching and emotive way. Good find, whoever this was!

Yay! I came across Maloof’s website through some blog links, and just fell in love with Maier’s photos :) she definitely deserves more recognition, so I’m glad that the internet is helping people find out about her. Hopefully the book will be available in the UK when it comes out!
