University of Sheffield Photo Soc

Exhibition Fun!

A message to the photographic people,

PhotoSoc is having its second exhibition this year, from 14th to 16th May. The exhibition will be at a venue called Sylvester Space, which has 5 big walls for our members to show their own work on. The exhibition is therefore called “FIVE WALLS”.

We want to encourage all of our members to exhibit their photos as we know that you all have a lot of talent. The deadline for registering your interest in exhibiting your work is WEDNESDAY 21st APRIL. After this, we will not take any more exhibitors.

You need to submit a set of photographs on a theme of your choice. The theme does not have to have a title, be arty, or have a meaning if you don’t want it to. The photos just have to be linked to each other (i.e. they could be photos of Sheffield, or black and white, etc). You will choose a plot on one of the 5 available walls (each plot is about 1 metre wide). You can have as many or as few photos in your set as you like (even just one will be brilliant!), and they can be whatever sizes you like (though we’ll give you a range to choose from to make it slightly easier for printing). The only requirement is that they fit in your plot!

When you have completed your set, you will need to upload your photos to our exhibition page (if they are digital) and we will have them printed for you. You will have to pay for the printing, which will be at a discounted rate through PhotoSoc. If you want to submit photos that you have already printed, you will need to give them to us by Thursday 6th May. Payment will only be for the photos you are having printed through PhotoSoc. The price of your prints will depend on the quantity and the sizes. We will give you an idea of price slightly closer to the time.

Deadline for ALL photos and payment will be THURSDAY 6th MAY.

If any of this has confused you, don’t worry. We’ll be telling you all the information you need to know at the first meeting back on Thursday 15th April. The only thing you need to think about right now is going out and taking lots of photos on a theme of your choice!

If you have any questions, just drop us an email and we’ll get back to you.

Happy snapping!

Love PhotoSoc xx

ps. If you didn’t take your prints back from the last exhibition, please come along to the meeting on 15th April to get them from us.

    – What do you think of the Zeiss 35 Biogon? I’m looking to buy into a Leica M9 syetsm and love Zeiss glass on my canons but am wondering how they compare to the Leica alternatives.
