After having a meeting with the manger of Varsity on West Street, we have booked a provisional date for a Photo Soc exhibition! This will be Sunday the 29th November. This will be available to ALL Photo Soc members, so start planning which pieces you would like to display. We will have the upstairs of Varsity to ourselves, to display work, and sell it as well. The venue will help promote the event, and it will be a good opportunity for those new to Photo Soc to display your work, and show some of your friends what you have achieved. More details will become available when the date is more concrete, but for now, we need to find out if people are interested in exhibiting their work, and available on that date (if not, we can reschedule to a more convenient date for the majority). So make sure you let us know!
The new theme chosen by Gunnar is “Traffic”. Interpret this however you like just make sure you:
* Have taken the photo between now and the next meeting
* Submitted the single photo to the Flickr group here (and if you haven’t joined, why not?!)
* Enjoy yourself
We are also planning on making a Photo Soc calendar. To make it, we’ll be asking for you to submit a few of your all-time best photograph, and we’ll then select 12 to go to print in the calendar. The calendar will be a good charity fund raiser and a cool thing to have on your wall too :)
The next social is this Thursday (22nd). Originally it was themed, but not anymore. We’ll be going on a short bar-crawl, starting at Vodka Revs just off West Street, to the Forum, Old House and then Bungalows and Bears. We figured the “FILM” theme was a bit much for our first one and it’ll be better to get to know everyone over a few nice drinks – collaboration always happens over a pint, or five.
Thursday 29th October, 7pm Arts Tower in Lecture Theatre 9. We’ll go through the competition entries show some pictures we took on Sunday, and then have another tutorial of sorts, which is to be confirmed.
We’re planning on going on an industrial type walk around Sheffield next week. Time & location will be confirmed when we’ve found the best place. This should be a bit more fun than the peaks with an overcast sky, since everyone will be able to see something unique and hopefully capture it uniquely too; after all, photography is quite a personal adventure.
Website and Forum
Our website is updated regularly with everything you need to know. We also have forums set up and we encourage you to get using these so we can have ongoing discussions, be that why everyone should have a 50mm F1.8 or why Nikon is better than Canon.
