First of all, a reminder that the deadline for the ‘Fresh’ themed competition is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 12 midnight, so make sure you’ve uploaded your photo before then! Only one picture per person, please. You can submit yours here. The committee will be shortlisting the entries, and there’ll be the chance to vote for your favourite on Thursday – maybe you’ll be the lucky winner…
Now to talk about Thursday’s meeting. I’m sure you’re all very excited about it. I know I am. This week we’ve decided to run tutorials in lighting (using both on- and off-camera flash), and how to make the most of your camera – so whether you’re a beginner or someone with more experience, come along to learn or share your tips! We’ll be meeting in the Arts Tower, Lecture Theatre 9, and starting at 7:00pm sharp (no waiting 20 minutes for everyone to arrive like last time, so make sure you’re there at the hour if possible). All you need to bring is your camera (if you have one), and an enthusiasm for photography. As usual, we will be going to Interval for drinks after the meeting, provided it’s not too crowded.
Also, the Peaks trip on Sunday: we’ll be meeting at 12 noon (location to be confirmed on Thursday – either Sheffield train station, or the Student Union), and returning some time around 5 or 6pm, so it will be quite a full day. We’re hoping to go to the Longshaw estate, with a stop-off for refreshments at some point – but again, details will be confirmed on Thursday. Wherever we’re going, though, we must emphasise that you should all bring comfortable and sensible footwear for walking in (the Peaks can be rough), and a tripod if you have one. It should be a great opportunity for everyone to get out in the fresh air and take some fantastic shots of the scenery!
Finally, we’re planning to have our first social of the year – a fancy-dress themed barcrawl – on Thursday the 22nd. The theme will be ‘Film’, and as with the competition themes, you can interpret this however you want; you can come along dressed as your favourite character from a film, dressed up as celluloid itself, or whatever your imagination can conjure… Details of times and locations to follow closer to the date.
We hope that you’ve all had a lovely 2 weeks since the last meeting, and that you’ve been having fun with your ‘Fresh’ photography. See you on Thursday!
Lots of love,
